Dear Students,

In preparation for the upcoming blizzard please put together a supply kit of the following items to make sure you are ready for the possibility of and treacherous weather conditions and power outages. Prior to the start of the storm gather all items and prepare to stay in place until the storm passes.

Supply Kit Materials:

  • 1 gallon of bottled water per person for at least three days for drinking
  • Fill bathtubs and any containers to provide you with water to flush toilets, brush your teeth, and washing-MOST off-campus locations are on Well water which means- NO POWER =NO WATER, therefore no flushing toilets!
  • Non-perishable food for residents and pets to last three days (Not frozen Food)
  • Prescription medication to last three days
  • A radio that’s battery-powered or that you can crank by hand or a NOAA Weather Radio that has a tone alert, as well as extra batteries for each
  • A flashlight and additional batteries
  • A first aid kit
  • An emergency whistle
  • Towelettes that are moist
  • Plastic trash bags with ties
  • A wrench or pliers you can use to shut off utilities
  • A can opener that works manually

Please remember to stay indoors and DO NOT venture out during the duration of the storm. Stay with friends and if you lose power, stay where you are (if safe) until the storm has passed. Call your emergency maintenance for any maintenance issues but understand that they too are dealing with the same weather conditions. Keep all pets indoors and if you take them out please stay close to your residence.

Remember to register your phone with the University Alert System and stay tuned to local stations for weather updates, warming stations, charging stations and more as the storm gets closer. For all immediate emergencies, dial 911.
